We know that there are more than 400 billion birds in our world and that each of them has feathers. Bird feather is classified into six types- Wing feathers, tail feathers, contour feathers, and so on. The feathers cover the majority of the bird’s body and It protects from water and cold temperatures. Feathers can be used for a variety of utilitarian, cultural, and religious purposes. They are also used to fill winter clothing and outdoor bedding such as quilted coats and sleeping bags. They are still used in fashion as well as military headdresses and clothing today.
Know-it-all Before You Start…
Drawing Materials Needed:
- Drawing Sheet
- Pencil
- Crayons/Water Color
Expected Time:

Feather Drawing Instructions
Step 1: Draw the centerline of the feature, which is known as the rachis, and the outer lines as the feather’s borderline.
Step 2: detail the rachis portion.
Step 3: Just below the outer portion, draw a small grass-like structure.
Step 4: detail the outer portion.
Step 5: continue the detailing.
Step 6: detail the top portion of the feather.
Step 7: detail the sideways as well.
Step 8: detail the side border of the feather.
Step 9: draw again the small grass-like sections as previously.
Step 10:To make the feather stand out, draw small segments within it.
Step 11: Now fill the feather with attractive colors.
